Mr. The Rock Dwayne Red One, Johnson’s holiday action film, has recently been teased with crazy descriptions and behind-the-scenes pictures. Over-the-top action movies are nothing new to the former professional wrestler. The Scorpion King, a 2002 spinoff of The Mummy, featured him in his first significant role as the title character. Johnson established himself as a mainstay in the action genre with movies like Race to Witch Mountain, Hercules, and the Fast & Furious series, despite swiftly showcasing his versatility with a praised performance in the Get Shorty sequel, Be Cool. Johnson most recently appeared in the blockbuster movie Black Adam as the DC Comics anti-hero.
Johnson used social media to preview Red One, his upcoming action film with a holiday theme. The actor posted several behind-the-scenes photos of the actor as Callum Drift filming on a studio set. Along with the photographs, Johnson provided a crazy description of the movie’s plot, calling it a “fresh new take on Christmas lore” and comparing it to a cross between Jumanji. It’s a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, Hobbs & Shaw, and Harry Potter. Below is Johnson’s Instagram post:
What May Red One Contain?
Red One sounds like a completely outrageous movie with a bombastic high-concept plot based on Johnson’s description. The actor has been in plenty of films like this; however, the Christmas theme makes the film stand out in his lengthy history because he hasn’t yet had a leading role in the genre. Audiences are limited to speculation because there hasn’t been much information about the movie’s narrative.
Family love is a common motif in Christmas and holiday-themed movies, such as Home Alone, Jingle All the Way, and Johnson’s favorite Christmas movie, It’s a Wonderful Life. But there’s also faith and hope, as demonstrated by Harry Potter and Miracle on 34th Street. Hobbs & Shaw, on the other hand, looks like a good parallel as the movie is an action one and Chris Evans is set to co-star. The two might have a buddy-cop relationship, unwillingly cooperating yet quarreling while doing so.
Johnson makes an odd reference to Jumanji in his summary of the plot. The first movie on his list might be the one with the most significant because it comes first. Red One’s main character will probably be forced into the Christmas world, a much more complicated and perilous place than anybody could have imagined, similar to how people in Jumanji jump from one world into another or vice versa. When Red One premieres on Amazon Prime Video in the 2023 holiday season, Johnson seems to be throwing himself wholeheartedly into the Christmas spirit with Bonnie Hunt portraying Mrs. Claus and J.K. Simmons playing Santa Claus.
