The long-awaited sequel to the hit sci-fi film Code 8 will be released exclusively on Netflix. Here’s what you can expect from the new film, titled Code 8: Part II, as well as everything else we know. Starting as a YouTube short, the eventual full-length film was released in 2019, but it wasn’t until it hit Netflix in April 2020 that the film took off, spending over two weeks in the top ten in the United States alone.

Riding the wave of success, a TV series was commissioned for the now-defunct streaming service Quibi, as well as a sequel film, the subject of this preview. There is no set Netflix release date for Code 8: Part II, but it is expected to arrive sometime in 2023. In June 2021, Netflix made the announcement that it had purchased Code 8’s sequel. The announcement, made by Ted Sarandos during his keynote address at the Banff World Media Festival, marked the first Canadian-made original English-language feature purchase by Netflix.

The sequel’s producer/distributor, XYZ Films, is also responsible for the 2023 Netflix original films Havoc and I Came By. The film was made by the Canadian production company Collective Pictures, which is led by Jeff Chan. The titles’ VFX are being created by PLAYFIGHT VFX. The sequel’s writers include Chris Paré, Jeff Chan, Sherren Lee, and Jesse LaVercombe. The sequel is directed by Jeff Chan.

Our 1st screening of Code 8 Part II — movie looks terrific. Robbie Amell posted on August 20, 2022, that they had just screened the film (showed off an early version of the movie to a small audience for reaction, etc.). Both of our mothers, who Rob and I brought, remained awake. Soon will be available on a Netflix near you.
