Hawaiian locals are irate that an Apple TV+ show, Chief of War, stars and executive producing Jason Momoa, has monopolized a farmer’s market for the past two weeks.

According to TMZ, the closure of the typical weekly market has affected 76 vendors at the Kaimu Farmer’s Market, who will now be unable to participate in the event on two consecutive December Saturdays. According to the market manager, the closures are a serious blow to the participants. “Farmers are most impacted because there is no longer a place for us to sell eggs, for instance. Regardless of a market, the hens continue to lay eggs.”

The sellers were informed that the Dec. 3 market was initially canceled, and then the Dec. 10 market was also postponed due to the movie crew’s request for a longer period to use the venue. According to reports, they won’t receive compensation for the lost revenue because the market rents the area and the property managers leased it to the production firm separately.

Hawaiian Farmers Are Upset With Jason Momoa's New Show 2

Momoa’s second series on Apple TV+, Chief of War, is a historical drama that will depict Hawaii’s unification and colonization from the viewpoint of the native inhabitants. Momoa, a native Hawaiian himself, co-created the series with Thomas Pa’a Sibbett as a labor of love. Doug Jung will serve as the show’s creator, and Justin Chon will helm the first two episodes. Peter Chernin, Francis Lawrence, Jenno Topping, and Erik Holmberg will all work as executive producers with Momoa, Pa’a Sibbett, Jung, and Chon. Momoa previously worked with Pa’a Sibbett on The Last Manhunt and 2014’s Road to Paloma, both of which he wrote, directed, and starred in. The series is his first writing credit for television (2022).

The upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will have Temuera Morrison, who previously played Arthur Curry’s father, Thomas Curry, reprising the role, so the limited series will also bring Momoa and Morrison together. King Kahekili of Maui will be portrayed by Morrison, who is most known for his appearances as Jango Fett and Boba Fett. Kaahumanu, the consort queen and later regent of the Kingdom of Hawaii will be portrayed in the series by Luciane Buchanan (The New Legends of Monkey). Te Ao o Hinepehinga, Kaina Makua, Moses Goods, Siua Ikaleo, and others make up the remaining cast members. The Big Island of Hawaii and the Bay of Islands in New Zealand have been used for the film series.
