This December, Top Gun: Maverick will make a comeback in theaters. That’s right, the movie, which has already made over $1 billion at the box office, will make a brief two-week return engagement in standard and IMAX theatres during the holiday season, giving audiences the chance to relive director Joseph Kosinski’s iconic sequel once more.

After the events of 1986’s Top Gun, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell continues his exploits when he is called back to the Fighter Weapons School to train a new group of pilots for a potentially deadly mission, including Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller), the son of his deceased former RIO, Goose. Maverick, which is officially the fifth highest grossing film in domestic cinema history, captivated audiences when it debuted over Memorial Day weekend. Its dominance didn’t end there, and the movie is unquestionably one of the best of the year. It dominated the box office to surpass James Cameron’s Titanic as Paramount’s highest-grossing movie ever.

Prior to the movie’s December 23 streaming debut on Paramount+, the hub for its production company, Paramount Pictures, the theatrical re-release will take place. There is no escaping the film’s complete dominance, propelled on by a good ol’ blockbuster story of heart and determination. It is currently available for purchase digitally and in physical formats, including 4K Ultra HD, possibly the closest thing home viewers can get to IMAX.

With the immersive 1.90:1 enlarged aspect ratio returning to screens, the theatrical re-release, which runs from December 2 through December 15, will allow IMAX fans the chance to experience the film’s flight moments as if they were in the cockpit with the Dagger Squad. These moments span the full screen and provide spectators with the closest experience to experiencing actual G’s and genuine danger thanks to six IMAX-certified cameras and technological advances only found in a Tom Cruise film.
