Sebastian Stan, a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently uploaded a heartfelt video in celebration of the late actor Chadwick Boseman’s birthday, following the Black Panther sequel’s tribute to the late great. King T’Challa, often known as Black Panther, was played by Boseman in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In addition to collaborating closely on Captain America: Civil War, Stan, who portrays Bucky Barnes in the MCU, also had appearances with Boseman in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Boseman received a confidential colon cancer diagnosis in 2016 and unfortunately lost his battle with the disease in 2020. Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, his last movie, led to his posthumous Best Actor Academy Award nomination in 2020.

In a video that the Chadwick Boseman Foundation for the Arts shared on Twitter in honor of Boseman’s birthday, Stan pays tribute to Boseman and considers his contributions to society. Stan describes Boseman as a “wonderful leader” and an inspiration, adding that the actor’s birthday has caused him to pause and consider his legacy. Stan continues by donating to Boseman’s foundation, which helps Black storytellers and exhorts viewers to love one another and share that love. Below is Stan’s tribute.

Not only was Boseman a well-liked performer, but he was also crucial to the MCU. Boseman’s performance as the first Black actor to portray Black Panther and the first Black actor to play the lead role in an MCU film was lauded by viewers all over the world who were anxious to see representation on screen in a significant superhero franchise. After Black Panther’s enormous success in 2018, a sequel was announced, but Boseman went away before real development could start. Although there were some requests to recast T’Challa, Marvel chose to hand the mantle of Black Panther to his sister Shuri in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

It was Boseman’s intention to avoid any stereotyping in his portrayal of T’Challa. Black Panther revolutionized the MCU for the better, introducing much-needed diversity to the series. Apart from his role as the King of Wakanda, Boseman was renowned for portraying significant characters in movies, such as Thurgood Marshall in Marshall and James Brown in Get On Up.

Boseman passed away, yet his contributions and legacy endure. The simplest way to put it is that Stan expressed it best when he said that Boseman impressed the world with his courage and “his examples of compassion and empathy.” Even in Boseman’s absence, his foundation is carrying on with that mission, both within and outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Stan’s homage to Chadwick Boseman demonstrates that Boseman left an enduring impression on the world and that his life and impact will live on forever.
