James Gunn Reveals Which DC Hero Fans REALLY Want to Join the DCU

Blue Beetle Booster Gold JL Turn Down 1

It’s a shocking decision, but comic book fans know just which hero they want to join the DC Universe.

James Gunn, the head of DC Studios, responded to a question on Twitter by stating that he has gotten numerous requests to someday incorporate Michael Jon Carter, aka Booster Gold, into the DC Universe. When I asked folks on Mastodon which character they would most like to see on screen, interestingly, Booster was the one who had the MOST requests, according to Gunn. I don’t write stories based on popular voting, but I still found it fascinating. Since DC Studios has not yet made any official statements, it is currently unknown if the egotistical hero will join the franchise.

If Booster Gold does show up in the DC Universe, it won’t be the first time the live-action version of the fan-favorite character has been created. The protagonist made an appearance in the Superman prequel television series Smallville, played by Eric Mastoff. In more recent times, Legends of Tomorrow added the character of Booster Gold, played by Donald Faison, in an effort to preserve the show from cancellation. In the final season of the show, the glory hound appeared in an effort to “excite” fans and gain more viewers. The CW show was canceled in early 2022, so the strategy eventually failed. Gunn was contacted by the Legends of Tomorrow writers in an effort to restart the popular series, although it is unclear whether this is in the works.

Future Plans for the DCU

Gunn and Peter Safran, the co-head of DC Studios, have been mum on what will happen to the remainder of the DCU. Even though rumors about future projects, such as a Man of Steel sequel starring Henry Cavill, have been circulating, the executives say that only they are aware of their plans. Gunn responded to a rumor that seemed to be untrue by writing, “Anyone who claims to know anything about anything in the future DCU is bullsh*t since right now that’s truly just me and Peter Safran.”
