The advice Hugh Jackman gave to Dafne Keen on the X-Men movie set is shared by the actor of Logan. In the 2000 movie X-Men, Jackman made his Wolverine debut. He went on to reprise the role nine more times over the next nearly two decades, finally putting an end to the character’s tenure with 2017’s Logan (though he will be returning and making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Deadpool 3). With a calmer and darker tale focused on Logan’s goal to protect the teenage mutant X-23, also known as Laura (Keen), and get her to safety, Logan marked a turning point for Jackman’s Wolverine franchise. The film marked Keen’s acting debut in the role of Logan’s biological daughter/clone and laid the groundwork for her character’s future as the main character’s replacement.
After making her acting debut in a movie with Logan, Keen went on to play the role of Lyra in HBO Max’s critically acclaimed fantasy series His Dark Materials, and she will appear in the next Star Wars series The Acolyte. Keen talked about the wealth of guidance she received while filming Logan in an interview with Marie Claire, both from James Mangold, the director, and Hugh Jackman. Mangold told the young actor to “always go full out” in her performances, which has since become “a top tip of [her],” according to the actor, who said that Mangold’s guidance was more craft-focused. “Hugh Jackman was so great as the number one on set at teaching me how to treat crew. He was the most brilliant person with the crew, he taught me how the distance between cast and crew is wrong and that everyone is to be treated equally. He was close with everyone from the crew, he knew everyone’s names and would get people lottery tickets each week. I learnt the ropes from him and feel very lucky to have been taught that by him.”
Will Keene Play X-23 Again In Deadpool 3?
Viewers have expressed a great desire to see more of Keen and Jackman’s connection due to their obvious on-screen chemistry and close friendship off-screen. But since Logan ended with Wolverine’s demise, it has always seemed impossible that Laura and Logan would ever be back together. The possibility of another meeting between Laura and Logan, this time formally taking place within the MCU’s timeline, was rekindled by the news that Hugh Jackman would be playing Wolverine in Deadpool 3.
It’s possible that a Laura variant may show up and be reintroduced to him if Deadpool 3 has a variation of Logan’s Wolverine from a different universe. Alternatively, Laura might make a cameo appearance in the film or in a post-credits scene. However, it’s more likely that she will be absent from Deadpool 3 and instead make a comeback in a later MCU project as more mutants start entering the franchise and the X-Men setup gets going. Regarding the actor’s interest, Keen has stated her openness to rejoin the MCU and reprise her X-23 character, which makes sense considering the enriching experience she described while working on Logan.
