Shazam! Asher Angel, who plays the young Billy Batson in Fury of the Gods, talks about his enthusiasm for James Gunn’s 10-year plan for the DC Universe. Since DC Studios was established at the beginning of November, the DCU (formerly referred to as the DCEU) is moving in an exciting new direction. For the upcoming few years, Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran will manage the DC brand across television, motion pictures, and animation. Warner Bros. Discovery is continuing to expand the DC Universe, and while they have not yet revealed their ambitions, this is the first step in the correct path.

One of its stars has spoken out about DC Studios, Gunn and Safran’s 10-year DCU plan, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods is slated to be the first new DCU movie of 2023. In a recent interview with Josh Wilding, Asher was asked what he thought of the new management at DC Studios and their future plans. The 20-year-old Billy actor was praised for Safran and Gunn’s appointment to lead the DC Universe in a fresh new direction. Safran’s prior involvement with the Shazam! films indicate that at least one of the DC Studios executives is known, according to Asher, who said the following:

“Man, I feel really good with Peter [Safran] and James coming on board. I mean, they’re obviously super talented, and super passionate and, I love how they’re creating this 10-year plan. And I think the DC Universe is going to be… there’s a lot of special movies to come and I’m just ready for Shazam to be integrated with some other superhero movies.”

What the Future of Shazam’s DCU May Hold

While Shazam! Fury of the Gods will be released in 2023 and will feature the DC family against the Daughters of Atlas, it is still unknown where the heroes will be heading in the DC Extended Universe. Naturally, the plan is to release Shazam! 3 later on to complete the Zachary Levi-starring trilogy. Ironically, despite several name-drops and a headless Superman cameo in Shazam!, the DC hero has not yet actively participated in the entire saga. Based on the San Diego Comic-Con trailer, it is evident that the DC Universe is still referenced in Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

Aside from Shazam! 3, which is unavoidable, Shazam! If Fury of the Gods does well the next year, the character will naturally start to appear in other DCU titles. Shazam would benefit greatly by joining the Justice League, which in the DC Universe appears to be on the verge of reforming. The inevitable fight between Black Adam and Shazam, featuring Dwayne Johnson finally facing off against Levi’s DC hero, is the next thing that many people have been wanting to see.

Where these characters end up in the DC Universe will likely be determined by Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ box office performance, critical reception, and audience response. If Shazam! 3 is approved and the trilogy can be wrapped up, Gunn and Safran might go ahead and include Levi’s character in other DCU movies after his film series is finished. Given that Shazam’s films didn’t hold back when examining the Justice League’s influence on the world, it will be a huge loss if he doesn’t eventually interact with other DCU heroes.
