Greta Gerwig openly admitted that taking on a challenging project like Barbie was “terrifying” and made her feel “vertigo.”

In Barbie, probably her most ambitious endeavor to date, Greta Gerwig is being open about her first concerns. Ryan Gosling plays Ken, and Margot Robbie plays Barbie in the anticipated romantic comedy. The paparazzi-taken pictures of the two celebs on the Barbie set in LA went viral and got everyone talking before production even started in March 2022.

Greta Gerwig deemed Barbie to be “a career-ender”

Greta Gerwig, who co-wrote the script for Barbie with husband Noah Baumbach and directed the film, admitted during an interview on the Dua Lipa: At Your Service podcast that she was both “happy” and “terrified” before filming on the picture started in March 2022: “It was frightening. That, in my opinion, was a significant contributing factor. It seems like everything is possible when you start from that position, in my opinion. As I started to compose it, I experienced vertigo. The Oscar-nominated director also discussed how she was allowed access to the whole Barbie archives: “They truly gave us their trust. And I believe that a major contributing factor to that was Margot and Tom [Ackerley] saying, “We want to create this movie and we want to make her vision.” Barbie movies don’t have to be made. We want to produce this.”

Greta Gerwig as a result was “a great deal of support for what I wanted to accomplish. Usually, when something seems right, I can feel it in my gut.
