After a nearly six-year journey, Avatar: The Way of Water‘s final phase of production is complete, and the sequel is now assuredly on track to open in theatres throughout the world. The film’s post-production, which started in 2020, shortly after filming was over, has finally been completed, according to ace producer Jon Landau, who also produced the 2009 version of the movie.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, Landau shared a picture of the enormous post-production crew for the movie, all of whom are shown beaming with pride and pumping their fists in celebration of their well-earned accomplishments. James Cameron, the director, is shown holding up a massive bottle of champagne in what is obviously a very happy occasion for everyone concerned. “Congratulations to the entire Avatar: The Way of Water family,” Landau captioned the post. “Yesterday we completed our final mix and picture mastering and I snapped this picture of our post finishing team. I am thankful to every one of you for your contributions to the film.”

About 13 years ago, when Avatar was published, it made history in Hollywood for its creative use of technology, particularly 3D, which gave viewers a really immersive and breathtaking experience. Cameron got three Academy Awards, including one for Best Cinematography, for his superb depiction of the peaceful exoplanetary moon of Pandora. The first movie undoubtedly set the bar for the follow-ups, and with The Way of Water having a much larger production budget and taking a lot longer to make, expectations are high for what it will provide.

We are all eager to fully delve into Pandora’s waters when the movie debuts in theatres on December 16. Several trailers and behind-the-scenes clips have teased an experience that will be worth the wait. The Way of Water will pick up the plot ten years after Avatar’s events and will examine family dynamics as they are once more threatened by an impending war. In their battle to maintain their lineage and ultimately defeat the relentless enemy, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaa) must draw on their parental instincts.
