Audiences have known that Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) is on a collision course with his terrible demise during the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story since it was made public that Andor would get a second season to continue exploring his journey inside the rebellion. As it rushes towards the start of Rogue One, Season 2 will follow a considerably faster timeline with 3-episode blocks covering a year, according to Tony Gilroy.
Collider’s own Steve Weintraub got the chance to speak with Gilroy before the Season 1 finale about both seasons, including what the timeline would look like if we meet up with Cassian Andor again in 2024. The show’s creator said that Cassian and Luther’s (Stellan Skarsgard) unpleasant conversation aboard the haul craft won’t be continued in Season 2. We’ll be confronted with our first significant time jump instead. He clarified, “After what you just saw, a year will have passed. In the meanwhile, a lot has transpired.”
It makes natural that Andor would choose to advance the timeline and portray a guy who is deeply ingrained in the rebellion now that Cassian is committed to it after his imprisonment on Narkina 5 and the passing of his mother (Fiona Shaw). Additionally, this offers Gilroy and the team far more leeway to integrate important characters into the plot and set up Cassian’s kill-or-be-killed mentality, which we first see in Rogue One. Additionally, it advances the introduction of K-2SO, another crucial character, in the series (Alan Tudyk). Fans of Rogue One should rejoice in Gilroy’s assurance that K-2 is “one of the duties” of the second part of Andor.
Who Will Return for Season 2 of Andor?
Given that Rogue One is about to take place, it is safe to presume that Diego Luna, Genevieve O’Reilly, and Duncan Pow will return. Additionally, Forest Whitaker’s character, who is becoming a more dangerous rebel in this reality, is also likely to make an appearance. Stellan Skarsgard was the first to announce that the series would return for a second season, so he’s probably also involved, even though we might not be back on his haul craft when the series returns. Likely, we haven’t seen the last of Denise Gough, Adria Arjona, Joplin Sibtain, Elizabeth Dulau, Faye Marsay, or Varada Sethu because all of the main characters survived the finale and Kyle Soller is currently filming on location. On the production front, Dan Gilroy, Beau Willimon, and newcomer Tom Bissell will return to write alongside returning directors Ariel Kleiman, Janus Metz, and Alonso Ruizpalacios for Season 2.
