The second season of Peacock’s fact-based drama Dr. Death has cast Mandy Moore. She will co-star with Edgar Ramirez, who will play the season’s fatal doctor. Ramirez will play Paolo Macchiarini in the second season of Dr. Death, which is based on the third season of the Wondery true-crime podcast of the same name.

Macchiarini is a trachea transplant surgeon who is so gifted and inventive that he has the moniker “Miracle Man.” Moore will play Benita Alexander, a reporter who interviews Macchiarini for a story and quickly falls in love with the charming physician. However, over time, she and a group of physicians from a different part of the world learn that Macchiarini’s life and career are built on a foundation of deceit and murder.

After playing a supporting role in The Princess Diaries, Moore began her acting career as a successful teen pop star. She then starred in the acclaimed Nicholas Sparks romance A Walk to Remember. The ambitious sci-fi satire Southland Tales by Richard Kelly, the shark survival film 47 Meters Down, and the WWII film Midway by Roland Emmerich have all since featured her. Rapunzel was a character that Moore famously voiced in the Disney animated film Tangled, and she later appeared in Ralph Breaks the Internet and an animated spinoff series.

The actress recently wrapped up a long run on NBC’s popular tearjerker drama This is Us, for which she received nominations for an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her portrayal of family matriarch Rebecca Pearson. After six seasons, the show was cancelled. The first season of Dr. Death centred on Joshua Jackson’s portrayal of criminally negligent spinal surgeon Christopher Duntsch. He was taken down with the aid of two doctors, an assistant district attorney, and actors Alec Baldwin, Christian Slater, and AnnaSophia Robb.
