With a month to go before release, the first review of Rian Johnson’s crime novel Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is out. And they are mostly positive. Critics have praised the film’s tone, smart writing, and star Daniel Craig’s screen presence. A few critics have lambasted the film for falling flat compared to the first installment, but by and large, the words are in the film’s favor so far.
Glassonion sees Daniel’s fictional detective Benoît Blanc return to try and solve another murder. Edward Norton, Janelle Monae, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Kate Hudson, Madeline Klein and Dave Bautista round out the all-star cast. The film currently has a 93% fresh score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, based on 132 reviews. Critics have praised the film for its mystery and ability to keep the audience guessing. A.O. Scott, New York Times reviewer wrote: What happens next? Independent critic Peri Nemiroff called it “another brilliant crime novel by Rian Johnson.” “Like the first film, ‘Glass Onion’ will be watched multiple times to fully appreciate the intense precision and passion that went into it.”
Glass Onion will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and will hit theaters for a limited time beginning November 23rd. It will be available on Netflix from December 23rd.
