Tony Gilroy, the creator of Andor, claims that if the appropriate post-production money is obtained, the show may return sooner than initially envisaged. Gilroy told us earlier this month that Season 2 filming will start this week and that it would wrap up in August 2023, making it unlikely that the show would return before the end of the year. A series like Andor requires significant VFX work, and accelerated post-production timelines come with a hefty price tag. While some series are able to wrap on filming, jump right into post-production, and get episodes on television within the span of a few months.

As a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Cassian Andor season 1 concentrated on his early years before to the Rebellion. The story has primarily focused on Cassian, although Andor has also explored the lives of other significant Rebellion figures, like as future Rebel leader Mon Mothma and resistance fighter Saw Gerrera. The show has received overwhelmingly positive reviews, and Andor was renewed early before it ever debuted on Disney+.

Gilroy has already started talking about his plans for the Andor series’ future, despite the fact that the first season finale has not yet aired. Gilroy claims in an interview with Collider that the timing of season 2 will probably follow that of the first season, with Andor expected to return to television in two years. He could imagine a scenario in which it returns sooner, but it would necessitate a significant adjustment.

Gilroy reveals, “The only place you can accelerate the processes is in post, and the only way you can accelerate in post is with money, and money is tight. So, I don’t really know, there would have to be some serious motivation next May or June or something. Someone would have to say, “Wow, we really need this, and we’re willing to pay X.” Rogue One proved, if you throw money at it, you can do post really, really fast. It’s just very, very, very expensive.”

It seems fans are now starting to embrace one of the franchise’s riskier initiatives as Andor audience levels are starting to fall more in line with the rest of the live-action Star Wars episodes. Viewers won’t have to wait long to find out how Andor will develop since season 1 is winding up this week with its finale.
