Quantumania in Ant-Man and the Wasp Funko! Pops tease the MODOK design from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Ant-Man series has always been the go-to for humor relief from heavier, more dramatic movies. But in the next third installment, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), and his family will shortly face Kang the Conquerer, the next significant antagonist (Jonathan Majors). Along with him, the robotic killing machine MODOK, a favorite of Marvel fans, will also make his cinematic debut, but it is unclear what exactly he will be doing in the movie.
In order to promote Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the Twitter fan page Marvel News was able to get a few photographs of Funko Pop’s upcoming figurines, and MODOK just so happened to be one of them. This confirms the character’s appearance more thoroughly and offers a better glimpse at the legendary villain’s MCU design. The Funko! Pops are seen below.
How does MODOK function in Ant-Man 3?
According to Marvel Comics legend, George Tarleton, a brilliant scientist who worked for the company A.I.M., was originally MODOK. He is picked to undergo experiments on, becoming a human computer with a big head on a little robot body. Overly ambitious, he escapes and transforms into a crazed antagonist, going up against heroes like Captain America, the Hulk, and Namor. The part of the character was considered for Peter Dinklage to play in Captain America: Winter Soldier, and he has appeared in several animated programs, including hosting his own series. Keith David from The Thing was cast as him in a proposed New Warriors TV series, but the project was never picked up.
Fans will undoubtedly be excited to see him on screen, but it’s still unclear how he fits into the greater plot of the film. The Lang family ends up in the Quantum Realm and starts interacting with the people who live there in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The character might be reimagined in the movie as Kang himself or as a robotic program that assists the inhabitants of the Quantum Realm. MODOK will undoubtedly be more than happy to finish his goal of killing, or at the very least helpful in doing so, knowing that Kang has evil intentions for the heroes.
Marvel is known for keeping plot details under wraps, and MODOK’s significance is no exception. Even though it’s wonderful to have a glimpse of what he’ll look like, much of the intrigue stems from not knowing when he’ll debut in the movie or what his plans are. Kang will be the center of attention for fans and viewers, making MODOK’s introduction still unexpected. Phase Five of the MCU will begin with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and if everything goes according to plan, anticipation for more appearances by the psychotic killing machine will be high.
