Netflix Renewal Status and What to Expect of The Bastard Son and the Devil Himself Season 2

Half Bad: The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself is a Netflix UK original series based on the Sally Green novel, and with all eight episodes now available, can we expect a season 2? So far, here’s what we know. Joe Barton, who previously worked on iBoy and Giri/Haji for Netflix and is currently working on Our Man from Jersey, adapted the book for Netflix. The show has also received overwhelmingly positive reviews from both critics and audiences. The show has a 92% rating from critics and a 91% rating from audiences on RottenTomatoes. IMDb has given the film a 7.6/10 rating.

Is Half Bad: The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself getting a second season on Netflix?

Netflix has not yet made a decision regarding the show’s second season renewal, even though, in our opinion, it’s a coin toss as to whether it will occur. We would have predicted a likely cancellation of the show based on its early ratings, but since it is produced by Netflix UK, the likelihood of a renewal may be reduced. The best strategy to guarantee renewal, in either case, is to finish the show. The cast claimed there will be “more to explore” in a second season in an interview with RadioTimes. Jay Lycurgo narrated to them:

“With regard to season 2, I want to emphasise that we are in a fantastic position in a world that we have only begun to scratch the surface of. There is a tonne more to discover.

It’s important to note that several keen viewers noticed that Netflix changed the show’s name and assets after it premiered. The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself was the name of the show when it first debuted; however, Half Bad has since been added to the front of the title. This is actually the third name change for the series, which originally went by the name Half Bad when it was in production. Netflix rarely does something like this, but if we put our conspiracy theory hats on for a second, we can come up with three theories as to why it might:

In an effort to gain some name recognition, they wanted the title to more closely resemble the title of the book the show is based on.
Making people search “Half Bad” instead of “The Bastard” is much easier and somewhat sanitises the name because the title is underperforming.
The series will carry on, but each season’s subtitle will change.

How popular is Half Bad: The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself on Netflix?

Before leaving the top 10 global Netflix charts in week three, the show spent two weeks there and accrued 44.72M hours of viewing. Despite not appearing in week 3, we do know that it received fewer than 18.17M views, which is a decline of almost 60%. We have already mentioned that shows that experience a 50% decline from weeks two to three frequently end in disaster. We can determine exactly where the show is performing the best by looking at the raw top 10s provided by FlixPatrol, and it appears that nations like India, Brazil, and Germany are where the title is gaining the greatest traction. According to their data, the show peaked four days into its run, and after almost 20 days, it has all but vanished from the top 10 lists. The title only spent 13 days in the top 10s in the UK, the country where the show is from, before falling out.

Half Bad: The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself Season 2 on Netflix: What to Expect

Here’s a recap of what happened in the final episode: “Soul goes on a rampage in Wolfhagen, desperate to find Marcus.” Nathan, Annalise, and Gabriel race against the clock to stop him before it’s too late.”
Naturally, there is a lot of source material to cover, but the show has mostly taken a different path than the books. Joe Barton has confirmed as much, referring to the series as more of a spiritual adaptation. Three books were published in total, with a companion story available as well. With that said, here’s a recap of what happened in the second book, Half Wild, and it sounds like it’s very similar to our Nathan’s situation:

“Nathan is being pursued from every angle: nowhere is safe, and no one can be trusted.” Now, Nathan has developed his own unique magical Gift and is fleeing—but the Hunters are closing in, and they will stop at nothing to capture Nathan and destroy his father.”
