According to the first report from Deadline, Steven Spielberg has cast Bradley Cooper as Frank Bullitt in his next original film Bullitt. The arrangement for Cooper to play the iconic role has been finalized. Steve McQueen famously played the character in the 1968 thriller’s original version. Spielberg has stated that the movie he is working on will not be a remake of the original but will instead be a new story centered on the well-known San Francisco cop. In addition, Cooper will co-produce the movie with Steven Spielberg and Kristie Macosko Krieger. Steve McQueen’s son Chad McQueen and granddaughter Molly McQueen will executive produce the film, while Josh Singer is presently working on the script.

Cooper’s casting was not an impulsive one. Since the pandemic started, Cooper and Spielberg have been talking about Bullitt, debating the character and how to reimagine the tale. Cooper and Spielberg have been trying to work together on a movie for years; Spielberg almost took over as director of Cooper’s American Sniper but ultimately passed the reins to Clint Eastwood.

Cooper co-wrote, directed, produced, and performed in the movie Maestro, which he is now producing. In that movie, in which he co-stars with Carey Mulligan, Netflix is scheduled to broadcast in 2023. Cooper is most known for his appearances as Jackson Maine in A Star is Born, where he co-starred with Lady Gaga, and as Phil in The Hangover. Cooper is a unique example of an actor who can win praise for both acting performances and cinematography, having received nine Oscar nominations for both acting and producing.

The first Bullitt movie, which still has the rights, was made by Solar Productions and distributed by Warner Bros in 1968. The movie, which was helmed by Peter Yates, features Steve McQueen, Robert Vaughn, and Jacqueline Bisset. It tells the tale of a San Francisco police officer who is tasked with protecting a syndicate witness. Bullitt embarks on a perilous voyage full of complexity, excitement, and double-crosses when two mob-hit men enter the picture. The Academy Award-winning thriller, which is archived in the Library of Congress as a “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” movie, has one of the most well-known vehicle chases in movie history.

Although Bullitt is currently in production, no date for its release has been determined. There should be more casting decisions released soon. View our interview with Seth Rogen, who stars in Spielberg’s most recent film The Fablemans, in the interim.
