Ryan Reynolds, the star of Deadpool 3, makes a lighthearted admission about how long he’s wanted to see the Merc with the Mouth work with Wolverine.

Reynolds met with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss his career and his eagerness to work with his friend Hugh Jackman as the recognizable mutant in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel. Reynolds will soon receive the American Cinematheque Award on Nov. 17. Reynolds’ answer to the question of how long he’s wanted the X-Men actor to take on his part was quite telling. Since the day my parents walked into that Holiday Inn Express and completed a box of chardonnay, Reynolds remarked, “I’ve wanted this to happen to produce a child,”

Reynolds and Jackman appeared together for the first time in Wade Wilson’s critically panned 2009 picture X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Reynolds starred in the hugely popular Deadpool film in 2016 and its sequel, Deadpool 2, was released in 2018. Jackman’s swan song in 2017’s Logan prevented the actor from successfully persuading Jackman to play his star-making role in both films, despite his multiple tries.

The Marvel studio’s rights, including X-Men and Deadpool, were preserved when Disney acquired Fox in 2019. With the intention of continuing both series under the MCU umbrella, Reynolds envisioned a buddy film for the third Deadpool episode and “begged” Jackman for years to join it until he ultimately said yes. “Oh my God, I’m ecstatic It resembles “old home week,” “Added Reynolds. “Being able to work on set every day with one of my best friends is a dream come true. But to achieve it with these two recognizable figures side by side is beyond what we could have imagined.”

Deadpool 3 was formally introduced by Marvel Studios in September 2022 with a trailer announcing the release date and revealing Jackman’s comeback. While the stars are keeping the plot’s specifics a secret, Jackman assures MCU fans that Wolverine will be a grumpier, angrier character. “No other option exists. He is unquestionably the person who is harsher, more caustic, and grumpier. And he’s going to take a bunch of physical jabs at Ryan Reynolds for no reason “Jackman elucidated.

Deadpool 3, which will be directed by Shawn Levy and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, is presently slated to debut on November 8, 2024.
