A current report from The Hollywood Reporter claims that Disney is developing a new instalment in The Princess Diaries movie series. The Princess Diaries 3 will be a continuation of the movie starring Anne Hathaway rather than a reboot or remake, according to the source, and Aadrita Mukerji will pen the narrative. According to the report, Hathaway does not currently have a contract to return, but she has frequently stated that she would be willing to do so if the opportunity arose. As a result, fans will just have to wait for further details on this.

Anne Hathaway, who played Mia Thermopolis, an American adolescent who discovers she is the heir to the throne of the European nation of Genovia in the 2001 film, does not yet have a deal to return to the series. She has, however, been outspoken about the possibility of a third film in the series. She said there was a screenplay out there and that she would love to be a part of it to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live in 2019.

Anne said, “I want to do it. Julie wants to do it, Debra Martin Chase, our producer, wants to do it. We all really want it to happen.” The actress continued, “We don’t want to do it unless it’s perfect, because we love it just as much as you guys love it. It’s as important to us as it is to you and we don’t want to deliver anything until it’s ready. But we’re working on it.”

Casting for Hathaway has not yet been determined. The Oscar winner has previously made it known that, should the potential threequel get past the script stage, she will return to the Genovian universe. Veteran actress Julie Andrews played Clarisse Renaldi, Mia’s grandmother and the regent of Genovia, in it as well. For the 2004 film Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, which brought in USD 134.7 million worldwide, Hathaway and Andrews reprised their roles. Both films were directed by the late filmmaker Garry Marshall.
