Chris Hemsworth stated in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel that he and several of his co-stars in the Marvel Cinematic Universe including Robert Downey Jr. and Jeremy Renner roasted the Captain America actor in their infamous group email after Evans was named People’s Sexiest Man Alive of 2022.
Hemsworth admitted in an interview , “We have an Avengers text chain and it very quickly was like what are you doing with your hands back there. Downey said he’s being arrested, I said beautiful mug shot and Jeremy Renner said a series of things which I won’t repeat.” Hemsworth, who previously held the title in 2014, responded when asked if he was happy for Evans for landing the cover. He said, “Absolutely. He’s indeed a sexy man.”
Evans acknowledged in his Sexiest Man Alive cover story to People that winning the title would result in some teasing, saying, “Really this will just be a point of bullying. It’s ripe for harassment.” The actor is only the most recent member of the MCU to receive the award, as Paul Rudd, a fellow Avenger and last year’s winner, was deposed by Evans. In addition, Michael B. Jordan, who starred in Black Panther, won the award in 2020 before Antman.
Evans admitted that while he expected some teasing from his friends, his mom, Lisa, is at least one person in his life for whom winning the title is particularly gratifying. “My mom will be so happy,” he explained. “She’s proud of everything I do but this is something she can really brag about. I am not surprised at all. Our family will be beside themselves.”
