The show has finally revealed what happened to Flight 828 and the origins of the Callings after three complete seasons. The show didn’t finish the mystery, though; there are still some unresolved issues.
In Manifest, the tailfin remains a very mysterious topic. Despite being wiped out on land in season 1, Flight 828’s tailfin was found in the sea towards the end of season 2. Ben’s insane hypothesis was that a higher power had restored the entire plane as a result of this. Since then, the travelers have learned some shocking truths about what actually transpired on that day in 2013. Now they are aware that the aircraft entered the divine mind and lingered there for five years. This advancement explains their absence and the reason they didn’t age, but it doesn’t explain the tailfin’s existence, which remains a mystery in Manifest.

The strongest piece of evidence for one of the most popular explanations of Flight 828’s disappearance has long been the tailfin. It seemed likely that Manifest was a story about parallel universes when it was revealed that the airliner was wrecked not once, but twice. There was this long-held theory that Flight 828 which touched down in 2018 was actually from an alternate universe. This hypothesis was reinforced by the tailfin, which hinted that there were in fact two distinct versions of Flight 828. Despite this, the idea of parallel universes doesn’t fit with the most recent revelations from Manifest.
All of these hypotheses were predicated on the idea that the plane had entered a parallel realm and that the Callings were connected to the lives of those individuals in the other reality. Both of these hypotheses have been shown to be untrue due to the realization that the plane was inside a divine consciousness and that the Callings originated directly from this experience. If Manifest isn’t getting ready to make another game-changing announcement, it’s worth considering whether Ben was correct about his miraculous resurrection hypothesis. Even though there were plenty of grounds to disbelieve that God or another deity “resurrected” an airplane, the series may have finally decided on that theory despite all the time travel hints. But if that were the case, it would raise greater concerns about what actually happened in both 2013 and 2018. If that’s accurate, the passengers had to pass away in order to enter the divine consciousness, even if Cal returned in the season 3 finale without needing to do the same.
