Our favorite leading woman from the late 1990s and early 2000s, Lindsay Lohan, is back on our screens in the Netflix holiday film Falling for Christmas, which also stars Chord Overstreet and her sister Aliana Lohan.

We initially encounter a hotel heiress. Similar to Paris Hilton, Sierra Belmont (Lohan) is dozing off at her father’s Belmont Summit Resort while wearing a silk eye mask, nightgown, and bed linens. With her glam posse following her about and serving her caviar with champagne, she is undoubtedly spoilt. Aliana Lohan, Sierra’s sister, holds out a selection of high-end clothing.

Sierra picks up the phone to speak with her annoying influencer boyfriend Tad (George Young), whose sole concern is maintaining his internet trend. Sierra replies that she does not want the position of “Vice President of Atmosphere” that her father has offered her.

It isn’t even a legitimate job. Sierra sips her champagne and adds, “I suppose he simply made it up to give me something to do. However, with the opulent Belmont resort nearby, Jake (Overstreet) is attempting to rescue The North Star Lodge, which has been held by the family of his late wife for generations. However, it isn’t getting the occupancy it needs to survive.

Tad proposes to Sierra at the peak of a mountain when they are on a trip to shoot some Instagram-worthy photos, with Sierra singing “Jingle Bell Rock” along the way (a homage to Mean Girls). But when Tad and Sierra both fall from the summit’s opposing sides, things take a terrible turn. Without realizing she was the hotel heiress, Jake locates Sierra and makes sure she receives medical care.

Sierra wakes up in a hospital bed, much as in 50 First Dates, with Jake in the room, but she has no memory of who she is. Until someone comes to locate her or her memory returns, Jake asks her to stay at The North Star Lodge with his mother-in-law Alejandra (Alejandra Flores) and daughter Avy (Olivia Perez). Of course, as Christmas approaches and Sierra begins to appreciate this simpler existence, feelings between Jake and Sierra begin to intensify.

Falling For Christmas is undoubtedly a sentimental holiday film that gives Lohan another chance to shine as the star. She seemed to have enjoyed herself greatly while doing it, as seen by the behind-the-scenes shots throughout the credits. Will it become as well-known as films like Mean Girls? No chance. Isn’t some of the CGI good enough? Yes. Are any of the lines overused? Sure. Will it, however, make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside while you enjoy Lindsay Lohan’s comeback to our screens? Absolutely.

If you’re wondering whether Lindsay Lohan still possesses the acting skills necessary to play the lead in a film, I’m happy to say that she does, and she continues to provide us with that wonderful comedic wit in addition to using her physical comedy abilities. The Lohan renaissance is here, and we couldn’t be happier about it, to put it simply. We eagerly await the renowned actor’s upcoming projects.
