The actors Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has hinted at significant changes for the franchise moving ahead.
Although a third film hasn’t been officially announced, the actors who play Nakia and M’Baku have said that the circumstances in the new sequel provide a “very wonderful springboard” for potential future stories. Nyong’o said of her character’s future: “Right now, it’ll take people seeing the film to fully grasp what the possibilities are and we take it from there. You know, I couldn’t have foreseen the direction this second movie would go.” Nyong’o added that she was unsure of her character’s future at this time.
With what transpired, both imaginably and merely circumstantially,” Duke said about actor Chadwick Boseman’s passing. “None of us witnessed any of this. We did not envision a scenario in which Chadwick wouldn’t exist,” Nyong’o continued. “You simply feel quite shaken. It jolts you awake and makes you realize that the future is uncertain and far off. When you go through something like that, it makes you respect the present much more.”
“She stated that the necessity to center everything and the urgency of losing him were the driving elements behind this tale. As a result, when I see Nakia, I’m just looking forward to her leaving her house at this point and being open to whatever comes next. But I believe that we have a lot of possibilities now given what has transpired in this movie.”
Duke continued to jeer, “Nobody will be able to predict Wakanda’s future location by the movie’s conclusion. I believe that to be the entire situation,” Nyong’o said, adding that she’s ‘looking forward to the rumors.’ Her co-star hinted, “Yeah, there’s a lot of conjecture. “Given how many twists and turns this franchise takes, it’s nearly difficult to guess where it’ll finish up. Along the journey, every character develops and changes drastically differently. Disparate adjustments have been made.
“You thus have no clue where Nakia will be after the film. You don’t know what will happen to M’Baku. You can’t predict what will happen to Shuri or anybody else. You are clueless.” Nyong’o said, “You have a lot of runways to conceive it for yourself,” and Duke noted: “And I believe it will serve as a very excellent starting point for number three’s creative process.
