Junji Ito Maniac

Netflix subscribers will be treated to a devilishly delightful and terrifying anime horror anthology from famous Japanese author Juni Ito to kick off the new year. Twenty of his stories will be adapted for one of Netflix’s scariest anthologies to date. Here’s everything we know about Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre, which will be available on Netflix in January 2023. Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre is a forthcoming Japanese Netflix Original horror anime anthology based on Junji Ito’s work. Studio Deen is in charge of the series’ production, as it is with other popular anime titles such as Fate/Stay Night, KonoSuba, and Seven Deadly Sins.

Junji Ito: who is he?

Junji Ito, who was born on July 31st, 1963 in Nakatsugawa, Gifu, Japan, would go on to become one of the most renowned horror manga creators in the world. Ito’s early exposure to occult horror films from the 1970s, the Kaiden ghost stories told by Rakugo storytellers, comics, and his traumatic experiences as a child all had an impact on much of his work. The passing of a fellow student served as the inspiration for Tomie, possibly one of Ito’s most well-known stories. He continued waiting for his classmate to appear because he found it unusual and alien that someone he knew had suddenly vanished from the earth. His other works, like Gyo, were influenced by the attack scenes in Steven Spielberg’s Jaws as well as the wartime tales of his parents. Ito’s sister and he had a chat about dreams that served as the inspiration for Dream, while Ito’s movement of his tongue in front of a mirror while imagining it to be a slug served as the inspiration for Slug Girl. Ito had earned a degree in Dental Technology from a vocational school before going into manga creation full-time. He became a writer full-time three years later. Ito discovered a love with anatomy while still in school, which further influenced his well-known style of producing body horror and cosmic horror manga.
