Season 2 of Partner Track has been cancelled by Netflix

Partner Track

It was not meant to be, but Netflix’s newest legal drama, which is currently streaming, is following in the footsteps of The Lincoln Lawyer by adapting a well-known novel. The Netflix show was cancelled in November 2022. The series, which features Arden Cho, Alexandra Turshen, Bradley Gibson, Dominic Sherwood, and Rob Heaps, is based on Helen Wan’s 2013 novel The Partner. The entire first season’s 10 episodes debuted on Netflix on August 26, 2022, across the globe. With mixed to favourable initial reviews. As of November 8th, 2022, it has a 62% RottenTomatoes critics approval rating and similar viewer approval ratings. The San Francisco Chronicle described it as “ideal background noise,” although critics’ opinions differed. The Chicago Tribune’s Nina Metz stated that the show is “engrossing enough to keep you watching” at the same time.

What kind of success is Partner Track having on Netflix?

The show accumulated a total of 66.01 million hours between August 21 and September 11 (the show didn’t rank in its first week on Netflix). Whether intentionally or not, the sitcom is most identical to The Lincoln Lawyer, which debuted in 2022. Both have 10 episodes and are legal dramas (although some would claim the programme is more of a romantic comedy), and their runtimes are relatively close to one another. In our Top 10 Report, which uses CVE data to assess how well the programme did on an even playing field, we highlighted the premiere of Partner Track. The programme aired soon before Cowboy Bebop, but noticeably after movies like Archive 81, Heartstopper, and In From the Cold.

Has Season 2 of Partner Track been renewed?

Despite receiving high praise from Netflix’s head of drama, Deadline reported on November 8th, alongside a busy election day and Disney news, that Partner Track would not return to Netflix for a season 2. According to Deadline, “the streamer had commissioned a writer’s room that was up and running, working on ideas for a possible second season.” It also stated that the show was relatively inexpensive in comparison to other shows, but viewership was insufficient to warrant a second season.

That was confirmed in an interview with Jinny Howe shortly after the show’s debut. On August 27th, Netflix’s head of drama, Jinny Howe, told Deadline that “executives are high on Partner Track, and the series is looking good for a Season 2 renewal.” Renewals are determined by a number of factors. Three internal metrics have been proposed as reasons for a show’s renewal or cancellation. This includes “adjusted view share,” “efficiency score,” and “impact value.”
