A heartbreakingly romantic drama series is the epitome of pain, is there anything more heartbreaking? It must be a heartbreakingly romantic drama series that is based on a real-life event.

If you frequently visit Netflix, you may have already noticed the brand-new limited series From Scratch on your homepage. You may have even given it a watch if you’ve seen it. And if you saw it, you undoubtedly sobbed uncontrollably. The narrative of Amy (Zoe Saldana) and Lino (Eugenio Mastrandrea) is based on a true memoir, so be ready to start crying all over again.

In case anyone missed it, Amahle “Amy” Wheeler, an American student studying abroad in Italy, meets and falls in love with Lino, a Sicilian chef, in the cross-cultural love story From Scratch. True to real life, their whirlwind relationship is also laced with lightheartedness and moments of comedy that exists alongside the more serious ones. Their whirlwind courtship encounters many unanticipated hurdles, including their extremely diverse cultural origins.

The two families join together to form an extended family beyond any they could have dreamed, demonstrating that love knows no bounds when Lino is faced with unfathomable health issues and the couple’s future is in jeopardy. The television show also features Danielle Deadwyler, Judith Scott, Kellita Smith, and Luca Sardo. It is based on the actual story of Tembi Locke, who wrote about it in her best-selling book From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home.

Together with her sister, Tembi co-created the program, and she has admitted that there were some parts she couldn’t bear to see since they were so close to reality. Tembi traveled to Italy in 1990 to pursue a study abroad program. There, she met Rosario “Saro” Gullo after he offered to assist her in recovering her stolen bicycle. The two immediately became infatuated with one another, and Tembi described how her late husband Saro had “a picture of “us” and greatness that suddenly felt as natural as butter on toast. His confidence and aggressiveness astounded me.”

Tembi relocated to her native America. Even though Saro was working as a chef in Florence, they continued to communicate, and finally, he traveled to the US to be with her. Even though they were much in love, Saro had trouble adjusting to life in the United States, much like his television character Lino. Tembi spent the subsequent ten years of her life taking care of Saro when he was identified as having the uncommon disease leiomyosarcoma in 2002. Tembi and Saro adopted their daughter Zoela like how Amy and Lino adopted a daughter named Idalia.

The creator of the show Tembi wanted to give her daughter a particular present, so she concealed an “audio easter egg” that only Zoela would find in one of the episodes, “so that when she sees it, she’ll hear a message from her dad to her.” Well, if you weren’t already sobbing, it should start you.
