James Gunn’s ‘Biggest Story Ever’: What Is It?

If James Gunn’s most recent tweets are any indication, fans eager to see more DC movies are in for a treat soon. Peter Safran, the co-founder of DC Studios, and The Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn have formally taken over management of the new company established by Warner Brothers Discovery to oversee the creation of a new cinematic universe for film, television, and animation. The former director-turned-film executive tweeted on Sunday that he will tell the “Biggest Story Ever Told.”

Naturally, we have to guess: could Gunn and Safran be gearing up for a massive event like Crisis on Infinite Earths to get everything in order? No publisher does comic events better than DC, and Crisis is likely the biggest project the company has ever undertaken. Furthermore, the plot directly concerns the fusion of various parallel universes into one, something the DC Universe sorely needs as it moves forward.

The CW’s Arrowverse previously performed the event on a much smaller scale and with only a small number of television shows. DC’s chance to unify the multiverse into a single continuity would be a true Crisis movie event. Additionally, it would provide Gunn, Safran, and other DC executives the chance to create Warner Brothers’ equivalent to Disney+’s Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is now being expanded across film, television, and animation.

However, Gunn claims that he and Safran have already mapped out that course of action. The director tweeted on Sunday, “All our initial attention is on the tale moving forward, working out the new DCU, & creating the Biggest Story Ever Told across numerous films, television shows, & animated projects. We can’t wait to disclose more. “We invited all of the DC fandoms from around the multiverse and everyone else as well into this new realm.”
