According to a recent Netflix announcement, a fourth season of The Witcher will return. Not all the news was positive, though, as the streamer also made it known that Henry Cavill would not be returning for season 4. Liam Hemsworth will take on the role of Geralt of Rivia, the new monster-slayer.

Guess we can thank Superman for that (Geralt grunt). Although I sincerely wish Cavill could continue on both, it’s unclear what his new obligations will be to the Man of Steel over at DC Studios. Since season 3 of his role as Geralt has ended, hopefully, we’ll learn shortly. He published the following on social media:

“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4,” Cavill said. “In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”

Hemsworth, a surprising pick, will take over the role for the fourth season of the Netflix series. As a Witcher fan, he expressed his excitement about the prospect to play Geralt of Rivia, saying, “I’m over the moon about this opportunity.” “Henry Cavill has played Geralt brilliantly, and I’m honored that he is giving me the reins and enabling me to pick up the White Wolf’s swords for the next chapter of his story. I’ve been a fan of yours for a long time, and I was moved by the life you gave to this adored character. I may have some large shoes to fill, but I’m really looking forward to entering The Witcher universe.
