Netflix Release Date For The Witcher: Blood Origin & Everything We Know So Far

The Witcher

The new prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin, which is reported to be arriving to Netflix in December 2022, will give us more The Witcher as we wait for The Witcher season 3 to arrive in 2023. Here is a summary of all the information we currently have about The Witcher: Blood Origin. One of the numerous Witcher projects that Netflix is currently working on is Blood Origin. Of course, there will be more of the mothership series; season 3 is scheduled to begin filming in 2022 and premiere in the summer of 2023. A new series geared toward children is also in the works, as well as another animated spin-off.

Story of The Witcher’s Blood Origin explained

The Witcher on Netflix is based on a cherished series of books by Andrzej Sapkowski, which also served as the basis for the well-liked Witcher computer games by CD Projekt Red. While Sapkowski does occasionally mention things like the Conjunction of the Spheres, it is obvious that Blood Origin’s plot will rely far more on the authors’ imaginations because so little is known about this time in the history of the Continent. In spite of this, the show could draw on a basis of early history. The Witcher’s world was initially populated in waves. Gnomes arrived first, followed by dwarves and lastly elves. Despite the fact that these Elder Races weren’t exactly living in harmony, the Conjunction of the Spheres destabilised their universe and trapped a variety of strange beings from other dimensions, including humans and demons. The Conjunction’s origins and exact course are unknown; all that is known is that it irrevocably altered the makeup of the Continent.

An occasion that is almost as buried in legend as the Conjunction is the formation of the first Witcher. Long after the first monsters appeared on the Continent, a band of outlaw magicians banded together to create a weapon to combat the supernatural beings that had begun to plague the populace in many areas. Ironically, some of them, like the sorcerer Alzur, were the ones who used magic to conjure the most dreadful monstrosities imaginable. The Trial of the Grasses, a clandestine and very painful procedure, was used to create the first witchers. Those that made it through developed improved reflexes, speed, and agility, making them the best monster killers.

Although the show will find its own route to these activities, this does not exclude it from taking inspiration from the books. In a manner that the main Witcher programme can’t, exploring a pre-Conjunction world may present a singular opportunity to delve deeply into the many Elder Races societies. Through all the centuries that follow, even up to Geralt’s own time, the mystery surrounding the original witcher and the mages who created him looms enormous.

Who is in The Witcher: Blood Origin’s cast?

The actors and characters who will appear in the prequel series have been slowly revealed over time. Recapped revealed in November 2020 that the show is looking for two female leads. Eile ‘The Lark’ Lithe and Princess Merwyn were their names. Eile is from an elf clan where knives are the principal weapon. Jodie Turner-Smith was originally cast as Eile but left the series due to a scheduling conflict. Since then, we’ve learned that Sophia Brown (from Netflix’s Giri/Haji) will portray Eile, and Mirren Mack (from Mudlarks) will play Merwyn.

Laurence O’Fuarain (Rebellion, Vikings) was the second confirmed cast member, playing Fjall Stoneheart. This figure was described as “physically robust, rough, and visceral,” and he belonged to a rival elven tribe to Eile’s. It’s possible that Fjall will become the Continent’s first Witcher.
Redanian Intelligence originally revealed Jacob Collins-Levy (The White Princess, Young Wallander) as Blood Origin’s “Captain Eredin.” This is the same Eredin from the novels and games, and another actor was cast as an older version of this character for Season 2 of The Witcher. This is the first significant link that Blood Origin has with the main series. Following those first castings, here’s who else you’ll see in the cast:

Michelle Yeoh will play Scian
Dylan Moran will play Uthrok One-Nut
Lenny Henry will play Balor
Nathaniel Curtis will play Brian
Francesca Mills will play Meldof
Huw Novelli will play Brother Death / Callan
Lizzie Annis will play Zacaré
Zach Wyatt will play Syndril
Aidan O’Callaghan will play Kareg
Minnie Driver as Seanchai
Faoileann Cunningham as Ryl
Kim Adis as Ket
Daniel Fathers as Osfar
Hebe Beardsall as Catrin
Isla Gie as Kes
