Batman 2 will likely be launched in 2025 at the earliest because of this. To adhere to such a schedule, the sequel would need to start shooting in 2023–2024, allowing Reeves another year or two to complete the script and all other pre-production tasks.
How The Batman 2 Fits Into James Gunn’s Restructuring of DC Studios
After a major reorganization, James Gunn and Peter Safran will now co-direct DC Studios as The Batman 2 is being developed. They apparently won’t be in charge of Matt Reeves’ ideas for the shared universe of Batman, though. According to some rumors, this duty will pass to Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, the co-chairs of Warner Bros. As with the first film’s separation from the DCEU, Gunn and Safran’s ideas for the new cinematic universe are still expected to have no bearing on Batman 2 or any subsequent spinoffs.
It appears Matt Reeves will continue to have a large amount of freedom to produce The Batman 2 at his own speed as James Gunn and Peter Safran work to rebuild DC’s future. The fact that Warner Bros. has yet to announce a release date for the sequel despite having said it is coming suggests that it will be released whenever Reeves is ready. Batman 2 won’t be released until 2025, which may seem like a long time to wait, but the largest series have a three-year gap between the first movie and the second. Even with his Planet of the Apes films, Reeves did the same. There should be lots of information about Batman 2 and the director’s shared world ideas throughout this time gap.
