“House Of The Dragon” Fans of fantasy, fiction, dragons, and drama will understand what it means to state that HBO has been lifting its game all season with exciting narrative twists, and the program is shaping up to be one of the most extensive series of the year. The drama explores the profound divisions, political scheming, and power struggles in the House of Targaryen and is set 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones.”

Since the first episode’s opening sequence, tensions have been building, and as the series has gone on, they have only grown. Here is a summary of everything you need to know before viewing the upcoming season finale.

The finale of 'House of the Dragon': A Summary of Everything That Has So Far Taken Place 5

Episode 1: The Heirs Of The Dragon

The first episode of the show establishes the background for the problems that develop over the remainder of the season. Princess Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock/Emma D’Arcy) is named as King Viserys’ (Paddy Considine) successor after the sad death of the king’s wife, the exile of the king’s brother Daemon (Matt Smith) from King’s Landing, and the death of the king’s wife.

Episode 2: The Rogue Prince

King Viserys chooses to wed Alicent under pressure from the council, establishing a breach between her and his daughter Rhaenyra. Lord Corlys Velaryon, Viserys’ in-law, persuades Daemon to attack Crabfeeder (Daniel Scott-Smith), an uprising leader in the Narrow Seas, using his influence.

Episode 3: Second Of His Name

Aegon, the son of King Viserys and Alicent, is viewed as a potential heir to the Iron Throne. While Daemon struggles against the Crabfeeder, his family celebrates his birthday with a royal hunt. But after using some risky strategies, he defeats his foe and is showered with glory.

Episode 4: King Of The Narrow Sea

Rhaenyra and Daemon reunite in King’s Landing after his homecoming, and he invites her out for a night on the town. Rhaenyra and Daemon engage in a passionate encounter that is interrupted by Daemon’s departure, to which Rhaenyra responds by dating Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel). Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) loses his job as the Hand of the King towards the end of this episode.

Episode 5: We Light the Way

Rhaenyra is engaged to Laenor, Corlys Velaryon’s (Theo Young/John Macmillan) son. Ser Criston Cole and her cut off their romance, and the knight tells Alicent about it while he is upset. There is a wedding feast, and Ser Criston Cole and Laenor’s lover, Joffrey, fight it out. Only their parents are there for the ceremonial wedding of Rhaenyra and Laenor.

Episode 6: The Princess And The Queen

Rhaenyra had her third kid ten years after the last episode, but there are doubts about their validity because they eerily resemble her adulterous lover, Ser Harwin Strong (Ryan Corr). Ser Criston Cole is aiding Alicent in her rage as she chooses to be blind to the rumors that surround the children of his successor. Currently residing in Pentos, Daemon is married to Laena (Savannah Steyn/Nanna Blondell), the sister of Laenor, and they have two kids together. After a difficult labor, she sets herself on fire and commands her dragon, Vhagar, to burn her.

Episode 7: Driftmark

All the important characters congregate at Driftmark, where the House of Velaryon is located, for Laena’s burial. The kids of Alicent, Rhaenyra, and Daemon each have their own power struggles going on. Laena’s dragon Vhagar, according to Aemond Targaryen (Leo Ashton/Ewan Mitchell), is to blame for the altercation between the kids. Aemond loses an eye to Rhaenyra’s son, but King Viserys does not punish him, much to Alicent’s disgust. Laenor rushes away with his lover after pretending to die, freeing Rhaenyra to wed Daemon.

Episode 8: The Lord Of The Tides

The declaration made by Corlys Velaryon that Lucerys (Elliot Grihault), the son of Rhaenyra, must inherit Driftmark is disputed. Rhaenys Velaryon, Viserys’ sister and Corlys’ wife (Eve Best), supports Lucerys for the position. Viserys also makes decisions for his grandchild. Viserys arrange a family supper to preserve harmony. The king’s final comments to Alicent at the end of the episode cause uncertainty and open the door for the conflict that we could all see coming!

Episode 9: The Green Council

Rhaenyra and Daemon are kept in the dark about King Viserys’ passing. Rhaenys is incarcerated out of concern that she would divulge it. Despite Aegon’s resistance, Alicent and Otto want to have him take the Iron Throne. Rhaenys flees the coronation, endangering the lives of both him and Alicent. She chooses not to murder them.

The previous episode’s events have brought the characters to the verge of conflict. How will the news affect Rhaenyra? What cunning move are Alicent and Otto Hightower going to make next? How would Aegon rule as a king? You’ll have to see the highly anticipated season finale of “House of the Dragon” to learn more about all of that, though.
