According to author Sara Hess, season 2 of House of the Dragon will focus on the romance between Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy). The prequel series, which is around 200 years before the events of the popular HBO series Game of Thrones, focuses on the conflict within House Targaryen after King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine) chose Rhaenyra as his apparent successor. Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), however, orchestrates a successful rebellion and installs his grandson, Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney), on the Iron Throne since numerous members of the king’s court viewed the choice as an insult to the patriarchal heritage.
Rhaenyra and Daemon got married right away in accordance with the old Dragonlord custom to maintain the Targaryen bloodline’s purity after Ser Laenor Velaryon (John Macmillan) pretended to die and left Westeros. After that, they relocated to Dragonstone, where they had two children: Viserys II Targaryen and Aegon II Targaryen. The author acknowledges that they are presently working on the future season and utilizing Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin to assist them in analyzing the couple’s connection.

As Rhaenyra kept giving birth to children with dark hair, speculations about Ser Harwin Strong (Ryan Corr), the presumed father, started to circulate. Many people would not view Jacerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey as the legitimate successors of the kingdom if Rhaenyra gained power. Rhaenyra’s prospects of winning the Iron Throne are improved by having him on her side. The Targaryen pair will face unthinkable challenges as their romance is tested in the second season of House of the Dragon, which takes place during the Dance of the Dragons.
