When will the second season of House of the Dragon air? Even if the season 1 finale is still a ways off, why not speak about season 2 of House of the Dragon for a minute? We don’t believe it is too early to consider the long-term future here, mainly since those working behind the scenes are undoubtedly doing so as they attempt to make plans.
So what can we tell you at this time—including when season 2 could air—about it? There are already a few distinct topics to cover.
Let’s start by stating the obvious: Season 2’s writing is already in progress. We don’t believe anyone wants to put off telling some more of these stories because George R.R. Martin thought the Dance of Dragons story might span four seasons.
HBO would like that there wouldn’t be a particularly long gap between the conclusion of season 1 and the start of season 2, but they probably understand that things can only move so quickly. Just consider the epic scale of this production and the expenses and production time for the special effects. As much as we don’t see that happening here, it’s still a marvel that Game of Throne’s previous seasons was released one season every year. It just seems like a really difficult task that none of the people concerned will be able to do.
For us, the ideal scenario is for season 2 to premiere around this time next year, or if not, early in 2024. HBO may have the potential to show it and the season of Euphoria concurrently, which would be fascinating and provide them with a fantastic opportunity.
