A R.I.P.D. sequel will be released in November 2022 and will be available on Netflix on November 15th, 2022, but exclusively in the United States. Here’s what you should know. This new film is a direct-to-video sequel to the 2013 film, which starred Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds. At the time, the film was considered one of the year’s biggest box-office flops. Paul Leyden directs R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned, which he co-wrote with Andrew Klein. The film was created in relative secrecy, with only a few rumours appearing in recent months to confirm its existence, including the PG-13 rating it received in mid-August 2022. The following is the official synopsis for the future sequel:
“‘R.I.P.D.2: Rise of the Damed,’ set in the American West in 1876, is a spiritual (excuse the pun) sequel to 2013’s ‘R.I.P.D.’ Sheriff Roy Pulsipher isn’t happy about dying in a shootout with a notorious outlaw gang, but he does get a second chance to return to Earth after being recruited by the R.I.P.D. (Rest In Peace Department.). When a portal to hell opens in the abandoned mining town of Red Creek, threatening not only the residents… but all of humanity, avenging his own death may have to take a back place to rescuing the planet.”
The following actors have been cast in the new film:
Jeffrey Donovan (Burn Notice, Fargo)
Richard Fleeshman (Call the Midwife)
Jake Choi (Single Parents)
Kerry Knuppe (Pachinko)
Tilly Keeper (EastEnders)
R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned will be available on Netflix US for three years after its November release, which means it will leave in 2025.
R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned will be available on Netflix US as part of the company’s ongoing partnership with Universal 1440 and Universal Studios’ home entertainment business. The agreement gives Netflix day-and-date releases of movies that are also available on hard and VOD platforms. The transaction acquired Netflix Rob Zombie’s The Munsters in 2022 and, more recently, Blade of the 47 Ronin in late October 2022.
