Revelations: The New Thriller from Yeon Sang-ho You Can’t Miss

Everything You Need to Know About Revelations

Ryu Jun-yeol, Shin Hyun-been, and Shin Min-jae star in the gripping new thriller from Yeon Sang-ho and Choi Gyu-seok. Known for their dark and thought-provoking storytelling, the creators of Hellbound are back with Revelations, a film that trades supernatural horror for a chilling psychological deep dive.

A New Kind of Darkness

Yeon Sang-ho, acclaimed for Train to Busan and JUNG_E, has always explored the boundaries of horror and fantasy. However, this time, Revelations shifts gears. “I wanted to depict psychological elements found in reality, such as illusions, delusions, and traumas,” Yeon explained. The film eliminates fantasy elements to focus on the terrifying depths of the human mind.

Adapted from their 2022 comic, Revelations delves into faith, belief, and the fine line between conviction and obsession. “Director Yeon Sang-ho suggested creating a story about faith and beliefs, themes that have fascinated him for a long time,” said co-writer Choi Gyu-seok (The Awl).

Revelations Plot: A Tale of Faith, Obsession, and Crime

Revelations follows the lives of two deeply driven individuals—one a pastor, the other a detective—whose beliefs shape their fates. Pastor Sung Min-chan sees it as his divine duty to punish the person responsible for a missing-person case, while Detective Lee Yeon-hui, haunted by visions of her deceased sister, relentlessly pursues the truth.

“The story focuses on the psychologies of Sung Min-chan and Lee Yeon-hui,” said Yeon. “They resemble each other but make vastly different choices.”

As their paths collide, Kwon Yang-rae—an enigmatic criminal—adds another layer of intrigue. The trio’s interactions spiral into an intense psychological battle, raising questions about justice, morality, and the dangers of blind faith.

Meet the Cast of Revelations

The film features a stellar lineup of South Korean talent, including:

  • Ryu Jun-yeol (A Taxi Driver, The 8 Show) as Pastor Sung Min-chan
  • Shin Hyun-been (Hospital Playlist, Reborn Rich) as Detective Lee Yeon-hui
  • Shin Min-jae (JUNG_E, Parasyte: The Grey) as Kwon Yang-rae

Yeon praised Ryu Jun-yeol’s dedication to his character, stating, “He’s an artist who asks an infinite number of questions to perfect his understanding of his role.” Meanwhile, Choi noted how Shin Hyun-been transformed her character into a tragic figure, carrying an emotional weight that wasn’t as prominent in the comic.
