The Ministry of Energy’s fuel pricing committee convened to address the adjustments needed for fuel prices in April, taking into account the recent movements in the global oil market. Reflecting the dynamic nature of oil prices, the committee opted to enact changes aimed at striking a balance between economic considerations and consumer affordability.

In response to the prevailing market conditions, the committee decided to implement a reduction in the prices of diesel, a vital fuel used in various sectors such as transportation and industry. This decision, aimed at alleviating the financial burden on consumers and businesses reliant on diesel, will see the price per litre decrease from JD0.740 in March to JD0.730 in April.

On the other hand, the committee deemed it necessary to adjust the prices of unleaded gasoline, specifically the 90- and 95-octane variants, to align with the upward trend observed in international oil prices. As a result, the price of unleaded 90-octane gasoline will be raised to JD0.940 per litre in April, up from JD0.930 in the previous month. Similarly, the price of unleaded 95-octane gasoline will experience a slight increase to JD1.175 per litre in April, compared to JD1.17 per litre in March.

In a bid to provide stability and predictability in pricing, the committee opted to maintain the price of kerosene at JD0.620 per litre for April. This decision ensures consistency for consumers who rely on kerosene for various household and industrial purposes, shielding them from sudden price fluctuations.

Furthermore, the committee reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring fairness and transparency in pricing by keeping the price of gas cylinders unchanged at JD7 for a 12.5 kg cylinder. This decision reflects the committee’s acknowledgment of the importance of affordable cooking gas for households across the country.

It is worth noting that the fuel pricing committee convenes on a monthly basis to review and adjust prices in response to changes in the international oil market. This proactive approach enables the committee to mitigate the impact of volatile oil prices on consumers and businesses while maintaining the stability of the domestic fuel market.

In a related development, the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission decided to maintain the “differences in fuel prices” category on monthly electricity bills for April at zero fils per kilowatt-hour (kWh). This decision underscores the regulatory authority’s commitment to ensuring fairness and transparency in the energy sector, thereby benefiting consumers across the nation.
