Dark Blackpool Illuminations ? Check it out

Blackpool 166 in the dark

A joint assertion from Blackpool Council and VisitBlackpool stated it was ?with regret? that the show would be suspended. However Blackpool Tower will stay lit. The lights will go out in Blackpool on Wednesday night as lockdown plunges the destination?s well-known Illuminations into darkness.

?The fundamental reason of the country wide lockdown is to get charges down and we can’t be considered to do some thing that jeopardises that plan.?

The Illuminations had been switched on in early September with the aid of a crew of ?Corona Heroes?, recognising NHS group of workers and charity fundraisers. The season was already going to be extended, to January 3, and organisers hope they will be in a position to flip the lights returned on when restrictions are eased.

Cllr Gillian Campbell, Blackpool Council?s cupboard member for tourism and culture, said: ?It is vastly disappointing to have to flip off the Illuminations, also given the restrictions due to come on Thursday there is no actual alternative.
