Spider Man Across the Spider Verse Part One Spider Gwen 1280x720 1

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a 2018 American computer-animated superhero film starring Miles Morales (Spider-Man) and produced by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation in collaboration with Marvel Entertainment. It is the first animated feature in the Spider-Man franchise and is distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. It stars Shameik Moore as Morales and features the voices of Jake Johnson, Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali, Brian Tyree Henry, Lily Tomlin, Luna Lauren Vélez, John Mulaney, Kimiko Glenn, Nicolas Cage, and Liev Schreiber. It is directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman (in their feature directorial debuts) from a screenplay by Phil Lord and Rothman. Miles Morales, the new Spider-Man, is followed in the film as he joins other Spider-People from various parallel realms to fight crime.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s plans for an animated Spider-Man film were leaked in 2014 and announced in April 2015. Over the next two years, Persichetti, Ramsey, and Rothman joined the cast, followed by Moore and Schreiber in April 2017. Lord and Miller aimed for a distinct look for the picture, merging computer animation with classic hand-drawn comic book techniques influenced by Miles Morales co-creator Sara Pichelli’s work. The project requires up to 140 animators, Sony Pictures Animation’s largest staff on a feature film. The film is dedicated to Spider-Man inventors Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, who both passed away in 2018.

On December 1, 2018, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse had its world debut at the Regency Village Theater in Los Angeles, and on December 14, it was released in theatres across the United States in Dolby Cinema, Real 3D, IMAX 3D, and 4DX formats. Despite a $90 million budget, the film made $375.5 million worldwide. Critics complimented it for its animation, characters, story, voice acting, and wit. The film won Best Animated Feature at the 91st Academy Awards, becoming the first non-Disney/Pixar film to do so since Rango (2011), as well as the first non-Disney/Pixar film to win when a Disney/Pixar film was also nominated since Happy Feet (2006). It also won at the 76th Golden Globe Awards, the 72nd British Academy Film Awards, and the 76th Golden Globe Awards.
