Tony Scott directed Top Gun, which was produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer in partnership with Paramount Pictures in 1986.
Jim Cash and Jack Epps Jr. wrote the screenplay, which was based on a three-year-old article in California magazine called “Top Guns.” Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis star in the picture, which also features Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards, and Tom Skerritt. On the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, Cruise portrays Lieutenant Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, a young navy aviator. LTJG Nick “Goose” Bradshaw (Edwards), his Radar Intercept Officer, is offered the opportunity to train at the US Navy’s Fighter Weapons School at Naval Air Station Miramar in San Diego, California.
The picture was chosen for preservation in the National Film Registry by the United States Library of Congress in 2015, because it was “culturally, historically, or aesthetically important.” Top Gun: Maverick, a sequel, will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2022 before being released on May 27, 2022.

Will there be another part of the top gun?
Maverick has had a number of release dates, the most recent of which was slated for May 27, 2022, rather than the previously planned November 19, 2021. The sequel was supposed to be released on July 12, 2019, but it was moved back almost a year to June 26, 2020 – and then again to July 17, 2020. No, Top Gun 3 is not coming.
