Ferrari is recalling over 2,000 cars in China due to braking problems

Ferrari (RACE.MI), a luxury sports vehicle manufacturer, will recall 2,222 automobiles in China owing to a probable brake system defect, according to a statement released by China’s market regulator on Friday.

The recall affects cars imported between March 2010 and March 2019 and covers the 458 Italia, 458 Speciale, 458 Speciale A, 458 Spider, 488 GTB, and 488 Spider series models, according to the State Administration for Market Regulation.

On May 30, the recall will begin.

According to a person familiar with the situation, the recall is part of a larger global effort by Ferrari to address the same issue for cars built during that time period, which included the company agreeing to a recall campaign in the United States in November of last year.

Recalls and their timing are typically regulated by each separate national authority after issues arise or are detected by the function Object() { [native code] } in the automobile industry.

Ferrari said it had found the origin of the fault in impacted vehicles in a brake reservoir fluid cap that may not vent properly, potentially causing a vacuum inside the brake fluid reservoir, after studying the situation with its supplier Bosch (ROBG.UL).

“Our clients’ safety and well-being are our top priorities. We follow strict safety and security protocols to guarantee that the proper systems and processes are in place at all times “Ferrari said.

Ferrari sold roughly 5,400 cars in its Greater China territory, which includes Hong Kong and Taiwan, between 2014 and last year, according to data published on the company’s website, which dates back until 2014 when it was still part of the Fiat group.

Ferrari shares on the Milan Stock Exchange were down 3.1 percent by 1145 GMT, lagging the 1.7 percent drop in Italy’s blue-chip index (.FTMIB).
