In December 2021, Tata Motors sold over 2,000 Nexon and Tigor EVs, demonstrating that electric vehicles are growing more popular as more people opt for greener and cleaner choices. Tata Nexon, on the other hand, surpassed some of the most well-known names from Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai to become India’s best-selling SUV in December 2021.
Tata Motors, a domestic electric vehicle maker, reported a 439 percent increase in electric vehicle sales in the last year. 418 units were sold in December 2020, compared to 2,255 the previous month. For Tata EVs, breaking the 2,000-unit sales barrier is a big achievement. Tata sold 1,751 electric cars in November 2021, representing a 29 percent increase in December 2021.
Tata Motors continues to lead the Indian electric car market despite having only two electric cars in its lineup: the Nexon EV and Tigor EV. In India, the Nexon EV is the most popular electric vehicle. Tata is also intending to release the Altroz EV in the near future, as well as an electric version of its famous micro-SUV Punch. “EV sales surpassed 10,000 units in FY22, and we broke the 2,000 monthly sales barrier for the first time in December 2021,” says Shailesh Chandra, President of PVBU.
Tata plans to deliver an improved Nexon EV with a larger battery and thus a longer range in the near future. Tata Motors has launched its own electric car company, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, in order to expand its electric vehicle industry in India. The company has raised Rs. 7,500 crore for its electric vehicle division, according to the company.
