Brandon Blackstock’s Battle Ends: A Private Struggle, a Public Loss
Brandon Blackstock, a well-known talent manager and former husband of Kelly Clarkson, passed away on August 7, 2025, at the age of 48, after a three-year-long private battle with cancer. His family confirmed the news, saying he “passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family,” and requested privacy during this difficult time.
Kelly Clarkson had previously hinted at this personal ordeal when she postponed her Las Vegas residency, writing that she needed to “be fully present” for her children during the difficult period. She also missed several episodes of The Kelly Clarkson Show, a decision now understood to be rooted in her desire to support her family.
Brandon was deeply embedded in the music industry, following in the footsteps of his father, Narvel Blackstock, who founded Starstruck Entertainment, managing country stars like Blake Shelton and Rascal Flatts. Brandon himself took on the role of a manager, guiding top artists and also serving as Kelly Clarkson’s manager during their marriage from 2013 to 2020.
Born into a family intimately connected to country music, Brandon was the stepson of Reba McEntire—who was married to his father for over two decades—and carried that legacy forward through his own work and reputation.
Brandon and Clarkson's personal journey began when they met at the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2006. They reconnected years later, grew close, and married quietly in Tennessee in 2013. Their relationship resulted in two children: daughter River (11) and son Remington (9). In addition, Brandon had two older children—Savannah (who recently announced a second pregnancy) and Seth—from a previous marriage, and had become a grandfather to Savannah’s son, Lake.
Their divorce, finalized in 2022, followed a high-profile legal battle involving financial and custody matters. It resurfaced in public discussions when a California labor commission ordered Brandon to return commissions totaling over $2.6 million—gains earned as Clarkson’s manager—on the grounds that he had violated the state’s Talent Agencies Act.
The news of his death moved many, and fans have been sharing heartfelt messages online. As one person on Reddit poignantly remarked:
“So sad for the children. I’m sorry for them.”
Another added,
“Tomorrow … is promised to no one.”
