Bondi Drops Fraud Case Against Utah Doctor in COVID Vaccine Scheme

On July 12, 2025, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi dropped a federal fraud case against Utah physician Dr. Michael Kirk Moore Jr., who was accused of destroying over $28,000 in COVID-19 vaccines and administering saline shots instead of vaccines to minors—allegedly providing fake vaccination certificates. The charges dated back to his 2023 indictment.

Bondi, posting on X, stated Moore “gave his patients a choice when the federal government refused to do so” and said he did not deserve the jail time he was facing.

A Symbol for Vaccine Skeptics

The decision aligns with the Trump administration’s more vaccine-skeptical posture. Supporters like Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. praised the move, calling Moore “courageous and heroic.” U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene echoed that sentiment, calling Moore a “hero” and accusing the government of tyranny.

Political Tensions at the Justice Department

The dismissal has stoked concerns about political interference within the Justice Department. Bondi’s action comes amid criticism over her earlier dismissals of officials linked to Trump-related investigations and reports of internal conflict, including over the handling of Epstein documents.

Why This Matters

  • Justice system independence: Critics worry that dropping the case during trial risks setting a precedent for political influence over prosecutions.
  • Vaccine misinformation: The case has become emblematic of broader conflicts over public health policy and freedom of choice—a flashpoint in ongoing vaccine debates.
  • Internal DOJ ripple: The move signals ongoing turbulence within the department, potentially affecting public trust and institutional stability.
