Ananda Lewis wrote a diary of her harrowing stage 4 breast cancer journey.
Ananda Lewis, former MTV VJ and host, was just one of the many victims and victims-to-be of breast cancer stage 4. The former host finally opens up about her long battle with such a fatal disease, sharing the public with her journey through struggles and miseries to raise awareness and inspire others in similar trouble. In a heart-to-heart and candid way, Lewis shared with the public the trials that she had to face after her diagnosis and some lessons learned along the way.
Recently, she confided that as of 2020 she was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer, a shocking turn of events that transformed her life and perspective. "I have been living a healthy lifestyle and was shocked to learn I had cancer that had already advanced to stage 4," she said. "It felt surreal and terrifying at first."
While Lewis is known to radiate a warm personality, bringing visible passion into her work for television, some harsh realities brought forth by the diagnosis forced her to look at life in a new light. "Cancer doesn't care who you are or what you've accomplished," she said. "It can strike anyone at any time. It has made me appreciate life in ways I never expected."
For all her treatment—chemo and other interventional-medical approaches—Lewis has been open about her experiences through social media and interviews. She's taken the platform to expose, beyond the physical ways of fighting cancer, the main emotional and mental tolls. "It is a rollercoaster of emotions; one minute you feel hopeful, and the next, you're overwhelmed with fear," she admitted.
She has enlightened people regarding the availability of information on breast cancer awareness and her main point that early detection and regular checkups are essential. "If my story can help just one person realize their signs, or help urge somebody to get checked, then it is all worth it," she said with a passion.
For her part, Lewis said that the vast support network she has had during this journey with her family and friends is what has kept her positive. Having a strong support system has been crucial for me, she went on. It has helped me stay positive and focused on my healing.
Still, despite all her struggles, Lewis has been living life to the fullest. "I'm still here and will keep fighting," she said. "Cancer may have changed my life, but it's not defined me. I will not let it take away my joy and purpose.".
Inspired by Ananda Lewis, giving me the strength to live with resilience and toughness not to give up in the present challenges surrounding us. Such is the testament of her human spirit and the power of hope.
As Lewis continues the fight with cancer, she continues to fight for the cause and hopes to make more people aware of the situation that others may be going through. "I want to be a voice for those who might feel alone in their fight," she said. "We are stronger together, and sharing our stories is a powerful way to connect and uplift one another.".
