American Pickers' Star Frank Fritz Dies at 60
Frank Fritz, the beloved co-star of American Pickers, has passed away at the age of 58, according to a statement shared by The History Channel and Cineflex Productions. The announcement, made on September 30, 2024, expressed deep sadness over the loss of Fritz, who had become a cherished figure during his time on the popular show. The statement read, “We are saddened to share that our friend and beloved member of The HISTORY Channel and American Pickers family, Frank Fritz, has passed away. We will always remember ‘the bearded charmer’ and his never-ending search for vintage motorcycles and bikes.”
Fritz, who starred on American Pickers for over a decade, became known for his affable nature, charm, and passion for discovering rare and unique collectibles, especially vintage motorcycles. His on-screen presence endeared him to many fans, who appreciated his dedication to the art of “picking” and his distinctive humor.
Mike Wolfe, Fritz’s longtime co-star and close friend, shared an emotional tribute on Instagram, reflecting on their decades-long friendship. “It’s with a broken heart that I share with all of you that Frank passed away last night,” Wolfe wrote. “I’ve known Frank for more than half my life and what you’ve seen on TV has always been what I have seen—a dreamer who was just as sensitive as he was funny. The same off-camera as he was on, Frank had a way of reaching the hearts of so many by just being himself.” Wolfe’s heartfelt post echoed the sentiments of many who cherished Fritz, both as a TV personality and as a person.
Danielle Colby, another star of American Pickers, also posted a tribute to Fritz, expressing her grief and admiration for her colleague. “Frank, I will miss your ability to make everyone laugh, your love for talking tattoos, and your epic collections,” Colby shared. “But what I will miss the most are those little glimpses of vulnerability from time to time.”
Fritz’s health had been a point of concern in recent years, and he had faced personal challenges, including struggles with addiction. Despite their close bond, there had been some distance between Wolfe and Fritz following Fritz’s departure from American Pickers in 2021. Wolfe addressed the complicated nature of their friendship but focused on expressing care and support during this difficult time.
“Frank is just going through a lot personally with addictions,” Wolfe said in a previous interview. “It’s unfortunate that he’s made decisions that have him the way he is.” However, Wolfe’s final post about Fritz highlighted the deep sense of loss he felt and his desire to honor their long friendship. “There has been lots of opinions in regards to mine and Frank’s friendship and the show but now is not the time to set the record straight. Now is the time to pray for my friend.”
Frank Fritz’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him personally and for fans who followed his journey over the years. His legacy on American Pickers, as well as his infectious enthusiasm for life, will continue to be remembered by those who were touched by his work.
