Alicia Hannah‑Kim Accuses Martin Kove of Assault at Fan Convention

During a June 22 meet‑and‑greet at Washington’s Summer Con, Cobra Kai co‑star Alicia Hannah‑Kim approached Martin Kove to say hello. She gently tapped his shoulder—but things turned alarming. According to her police report, Kove suddenly grabbed her arm and bit her upper arm so hard it nearly broke the skin, causing her to cry out in pain. He allegedly followed by kissing the same bruised area.

Alicia and her husband, actor Sebastian Roche, confronted Kove after she pulled back. Witnesses alerted on‑site security. An officer examined Hannah‑Kim’s arm, which already showed a noticeable, blue‑tinged bite mark. Kove apparently acknowledged biting her, claiming he thought he was being playful, referring to “play‑fighting” from their Cobra Kai sets.

The officer cautioned that such conduct was illegal and unacceptable. Kove responded by saying it was harmless fun and did not mean for it to be taken seriously.

Hannah‑Kim chose not to press charges, but she requested that the incident be officially documented, in case similar behavior occurs again. She and her husband submitted sworn statements and the event was given a formal case number.

Following the incident, Kove and his son declined to offer written statements. As a result, producers escorted them out of the event. Neither Kove nor Hannah‑Kim’s representatives have released public comments outside the police report.

  • Martin Kove, aged 78, is best known for playing John Kreese in the original Karate Kid films and reprising the role in all six seasons of Cobra Kai.
  • Alicia Hannah‑Kim, 37, joined as Sensei Kim Da‑Eun during seasons 5 and 6 and played a complex character whose arc intertwined closely with Kove’s Kreese.

This incident raises key concerns for celebrity events:

  • Physical boundaries: Even playful acts can become harmful and damaging, especially in public, crowded settings.
  • Professional accountability: Guest conduct at conventions must respect safety, consent, and personal space.
  • Caution for fans and peers: Public figures and participants are reminded of the importance of clear consent, even in seemingly friendly situations.
