Season 3 of Outer Banks Netflix Estimated Release Date & What We Know So Far

According to reports, Outer Banks season 3’s filming, which started at the start of 2022, is now finished. Here is an updated preview of everything we currently know about Outer Banks season 3, including the three new cast members, production dates, what to anticipate from the storyline, and more. The teen crime drama series made its debut in April 2020 and returned in July 2020 for a much-anticipated second season. The programme has received numerous nominations for awards over the course of its run, including the prestigious best drama and best male TV star honours at the People’s Choice Awards after season 2.

Are you short on time? Here are some bullet points for the upcoming season:

Season 3 is expected to consist of 10 episodes as per previous seasons.
Filming started in early 2022 and is expected to have concluded.
A release date has yet to be announced. Late 2022 could squeeze in but 2023 seems a more likely bet.
Andy MacQueen, Fiona Palomo and Lou Ferrigno Jr have joined the cast.
Outer Banks reportedly has an episode budget of around $5 million per episode, meaning the total budget for season 3 will be around $50 million.
Showrunners continue to be Shannon Burke, Jonas Pate, and Josh Pate.

How did the second season of Outer Banks fare on Netflix?

The series included in Netflix’s new top 10 metrics saw 322.59 million global viewing hours between July 26 and September 5, 2021. For the first four weeks after its Netflix release, it ranked first. The show attained the eighth-most popular show ranking on the IMDBPro MovieMeter. Why is there a delay in renewing? Although we don’t officially know why the renewal took so long, we can speculate based on the length of time that previous renewals took. Salary negotiations are almost certainly going down with large ensemble cast shows like Outer Banks. We observed significant wage negotiations for shows like 13 Reasons Why, Never Have I Ever, and On My Block after season 2.

Outer Banks Season 3 Cast: Who Is Back and Who Is New?

Along with the renewal, a press release obtained by What’s on Netflix states that showrunners and executive producers Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shanon Burke will return. We also know that the following key cast members will return for season 3:

Chase Stokes
Madison Bailey
Jonathan Daviss
Madelyn Cline
Rudy Pankow
Austin North
Charles Esten
Drew Starkey
Carlacia Grant (upped to season regular for season 3 after debuting in season 2)

We learned of three new major castings for Season 3 of Outer Banks via Deadline in June 2022. The following new cast members will appear in future episodes:
Andy MacQueen (Station Eleven) will play Carlos Singh, a Caribbean Don who is intelligent, refined, and ruthless, and who is on his own treasure hunt.
Fiona Palomo (Netflix’s Control Z) will play Sofia, a Pogue who secretly wishes to be a member of the country club crowd. She becomes close to Rafe after becoming likeable and scrappy.

Ryan will be played by Lou Ferrigno Jr. (Star Girl) in Season 3. He is Singh’s top security officer and enforcer, described as calm and collected but young and hungry. He’s done enough jobs to keep his cool, but he also understands what could happen if he fails.
There were also casting calls for Kook Dads, mature Kooks and Pogues, bartenders, waitstaff, and some photo doubles. According to IMDb, a number of smaller castings have also been made for the new season, including:

Rick Perez as Ted
Art Newkirk as Officer Henderson
Angela Lentz as Cruise Ship Patron
Drew Broderick as a Security Guard

As you may know, one of the body doubles, Alexander Jennings, was killed in a hit-and-run accident during season 3 filming. “We are all in complete shock right now,” casting director Kimmie Stewart told The Post and Courier, adding that Jennings was “one of the kindest humans I’ve ever known.”

Outer Banks Season 3 on Netflix: What to Expect

Let’s take a quick look back at Season 2 of Outer Banks and where it will lead us in Season 3. The conflict between the Camerons and the Pogues is likely to continue, with Pope seeking to reclaim the now-stolen golden cross.
As they flee the large vessel and seek refuge on a remote abandoned island, Pope says, “it’s not over.” They decide to stay on the island, but they won’t be there long, especially since their family has reported them missing. Pope will most likely continue to investigate his family’s connection to the Santo Domingo Cross.

Ward Cameron famously faked his death in season 2 and is now attempting to stay under the radar. Ward is likely to continue to play a key role in the conflict going forward after a few run-ins near the end of the second season, including John B sparing his life, but will he be caught?
The biggest mystery heading into Season 3 is how and why Big John has returned. He appears to be implying that he knows where Denmark’s Cross is but has been diagnosed as “half-dead.” What impact will he have in the future? We’ll have to see what happens.

Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke have also stated that while the Pogues are down, they are not out, implying that they will be back on the hunt for gold right away. “The writers really like to keep us on our toes, and I think that creates performances that catch you in the moment… I’ve no idea what’s going on beyond what we’ve shot in Barbados,” Chase Stokes teased to EliteDaily, adding, “I think a lot of loose ends are going to get tied.” Many questions will be answered. And, as is customary, these kids will be put through the wringer.”

When will Outer Banks season 3 be available on Netflix?

This is despite rumours of a December 2022 release date (this is not confirmed). However, thanks to previous seasons’ production schedules, we can already speculate on when the next season will be released.
Outer Banks’ second season was shot between August 2020 and April 2021 and will be released four months later, at the end of July 2021. If a similar schedule is followed and there are no delays or problems with the filming schedule, season 3 could premiere on Netflix in December 2022. At the very least, we anticipate a return to the Outer Banks by Q1-Q2 2023.
