Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a 2018 American computer-animated superhero film starring Miles Morales (Spider-Man) and produced by Columbia Pictures.

It is the first animated feature in the Spider-Man franchise and is distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing.

Miles Morales, the new Spider-Man, is followed in the film as he joins other Spider-People from various parallel realms to fight crime.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s plans for an animated Spider-Man film were leaked in 2014 and announced in April 2015.

Over the next two years, Persichetti, Ramsey, and Rothman joined the cast, followed by Moore and Schreiber in April 2017.

The project requires up to 140 animators, Sony Pictures Animation’s largest staff on a feature film.

The film is dedicated to Spider-Man inventors Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, who both passed away in 2018.

On December 1, 2018, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse had its world debut at the Regency Village Theater in Los Angeles .

Critics complimented it for its animation, characters, story, voice acting, and wit.

The film won Best Animated Feature at the 91st Academy Awards, becoming the first non-Disney/Pixar film.
