HollywoodAshton Irwin, the drummer for 5 Seconds of Summer, has released his second solo record.

Ashton Irwin, the drummer of 5 Seconds of Summer, has unveiled his second solo album titled ‘Blood on the Drums’. Following his 2020 release ‘Superbloom’, this LP is a collaboration with the pop rock group’s producers, John Feldmann and Matthew Pauling. The lead single, ‘Straight To Your Heart’, carries an 80s-inspired vibe and is accompanied by a music video co-directed by Ashton himself, along with Ryan Fleming. Notably, Ashton’s dedication to the album’s promotion led him to obtain his motorcycle license and learn archery for a desert-themed promotional shoot in California.

The album is strategically released in two parts, with ‘The Thorns’ dropping on June 12, featuring the lead single ‘Straight To Your Heart’, followed by ‘The Roses’ on July 17. Ashton’s decision to release the album in segments allows listeners to digest the music gradually and form their interpretations. He expressed his love for crafting full-length albums but acknowledged the importance of allowing listeners to engage with the music in a way that suits their preferences.

‘Blood on the Drums’ serves as a metaphor for Ashton’s dedication to his music, symbolizing the depth of his commitment to his craft. Unlike his previous solo endeavor, ‘Superbloom’, which delved into personal reflections and introspection, this album takes a more outward approach. It traverses the highs and lows of Ashton’s life over the past decade, offering a blend of infectious 80s anthems, rock bangers, and art-pop elements. The album aims to connect with listeners on a mass scale, intertwining universal themes with personal narratives.

Ashton’s creative process for ‘Blood on the Drums’ was influenced by his experiences and reflections on his journey thus far. He contemplated the people he left behind, the challenges he faced, and the personal growth he underwent. The album serves as a testament to his resilience and personal strength, encapsulating his evolution as an artist and as an individual. Through his music, Ashton explores themes of addiction, familial relationships, and self-reliance, offering a glimpse into his inner world.

In addition to the album release, Ashton is set to perform a one-off concert in Los Angeles at the Belasco on July 18. This live event will give fans an opportunity to experience the tracks from ‘Blood on the Drums’ in a live setting, further enhancing the album’s immersive experience. It promises to be a memorable showcase of Ashton’s musical talent and his evolution as a solo artist.

‘Blood on the Drums’ marks another significant milestone in Ashton Irwin’s solo career. With its infectious melodies, introspective lyrics, and diverse sonic palette, the album showcases Ashton’s growth as a musician and a storyteller. It invites listeners on a journey of self-discovery and reflection, resonating with universal themes while maintaining a deeply personal touch. As Ashton continues to explore new musical horizons, ‘Blood on the Drums’ stands as a testament to his artistic vision and creative integrity.
