Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse star Shameik Moore has expressed regret over his response to the movie's 2024 Oscar loss

After Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse lost the Academy Award for best animated feature to Hayao Miyazaki's The Boy and the Heron, Shameik Moore found himself in hot trouble on X during the 2024 Oscars.

In the best animated feature film category at the Oscars, Hayao Miyazaki's The Boy and the Heron defeated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

The franchise's Miles Morales, alias Spider-Man, is voiced by Shameik Moore, who declared right away on X that the movie had been "robbed."

Many of the responses he received mentioned that the highly regarded film directed by a legend had defeated the animated Sony picture. Moore was urged to respect Miyazaki's work in other remarks.

Shortly after seeing the responses, Moore acknowledged that, indeed, he ought to have behaved more tactfully on social media.

“Respect to the winner,” he tweeted. “It’s true, I’m definitely a sore loser, but we didn’t lose, ‘Spider-Verse’ has impacted A LOT of lives. We may not have been acknowledged tonight but life goes on, and BEYOND….. yea get ready.”

Chris Miller, the producer and co-writer of Spider-Verse, responded to the movie's Oscar defeat somewhat better, though. Miller said on his personal X account, "Well, if you're going to lose, might as well lose to the GOAT."

“Your [sic] right, honestly the whole ‘Spider-Verse’ team are such good sports,” Moore said in response to the fan, who observed that Miller’s post is “how you respond to losing.”

Moore added, “Very professional and I’m excited to see what comes of this. I’m young, and a fighter, so forgive my nature. Congrats to the winners.”
